The GY-271 module is a 3-axis digital compass designed for navigation using weak magnetic fields. This module can be used in the navigation system, self-made robots, quadcopters, airplanes, etc.

The GY-271 module board is designed based on the QMC5883L chip (similar to HMC5883L), DC-DC voltage converter and other auxiliary components, which ensure the correct operation of the module. The QMC5883L chip is a digital compass with an accuracy of 1 to 2°. The features of this digital compass are: 5V supply voltage and low power consumption (75 µA). The gain depends on the magnetic field. If you use this sensor as a simple compass, it must be fixed on a flat surface.

Please note that metal objects located close to the module (about 30 cm) strongly distort its readings.

If necessary, the GY-271 sensor can be calibrated. For this you need to downloadMagMaster(the instruction is inside the file). The calibration process can be found atsite.

The GY-271 module is controlled by the I2C bus. Module address 0x0D. Pin assignments of the digital compass board:

VCC: supply voltage
GND: ground
SCL: clock line
SDA: data line
DRDY: module ready
To work with the module in the Arduino IDE development environment, you need to download the QMC5883L library, and then install it yourself. This module is not compatible with the HMC5883L library.

Power is supplied from the Arduino platform or other microcontroller device. The supply voltage is 3.3/5V.
